3 February 2020: Drove back to Las Vegas from Laughlin in the afternoon and the wind was still blowing even though the air looked relatively clear …



Back in Laughlin…

3 February 2020: The wind started after we left the dunes yesterday afternoon, and is blowing all over the southwest today. Spending the day in Laughlin on the “strip” for a bit of rest before the next segment of the journey around the southwest…

Finding Our Way…


Getting deeper into navigation in big dunes…


2 February 2020: Today we got deeper into the big dunes navigating our way further and worked on the map to ground skills for precision in chasing “black” checkpoints Rebelle-style. It was a great chance to pull everything we learned back together and enjoy a final day out in the sand…

1 February 2020: Today was all about getting out into the bigger dunes and getting really comfortable driving steep and tall spaces, and learning to look ahead while moving along at a faster pace so we would be able to eventually keep driving without having to stop and re-assess after every three dunes. It was a day of real growth in our skills …

Advanced sand dune training with Barlow Adventures at the Imperial Sand Dunes in southern California. This three day driving and navigation program focuses on moving safely and effectively through large dunefields. Skills-building exercises are intended to improve pace, line choice and vehicle control, as well as developing precision map and compass navigation technique…

Joining the Texas Rovers for their annual South Central Area Rover Rally (SCARR). SCARR is a four-day event geared towards Land Rover enthusiasts that attracts people from all over the globe. SCARR attendees get to experience the off-road capabilities of Land Rovers in the beautiful setting of the Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area. Texas Rovers has reserved the entire 1,850-acre BMRA off-road park located in Gilmer, Texas for activities that include guided trail runs, lectures and off-road training, the ladies-only Barbara Toy trail run and much more…


THE IMPERIAL SAND DUNES

The Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, located in the southeast corner of California, is the largest mass of sand dunes in the state. Formed by windblown sands of ancient Lake Cahuilla, the dune system extends for more than 40 miles in a band averaging 5 miles wide (map). Widely known as “Glamis” it is an off-road paradise, with an extensive open area for OHV use.
