28 January 2026: Got the route for the Sichuan Basin to Tibetan Plateau mapped out on paper topo maps today. It was a bit of a project even getting it mapped out digitally because I didn’t have GPS coordinates for everything, some were only place names, but with the problems of transliteration and different names for the same places, it was more complicated than usual. Still I now can see clearly where we are heading and get a good sense of the terrain…

19 January 2026: Drove out to the east end to look for snowy owls again, but did not see any. Then on my way back home, by Lake Ronkonkoma, I spotted a Bald Eagle and stopped to make some photos, and then a second Bald Eagle joined the first one up in the bare branches of the tallest tree. I hung out observing and photographing for a while before they flew away…

18 January 2026: Snow on the ground but getting out a bit anyway because it’s the weekend. Headed up to the Nissequoge Tidal Basin for a bit, but it was really very cold…
