NY: Storm of the Century\u2026<\/h5>\n

Almost three feet of snow\u2026<\/strong><\/h6>\n

23 February 2026:<\/strong> We got hit with the storm of the century, a record snowfall for Long Island — almost three feet. It was officially a blizzard and the government declared a state of emergency in NY. It was pretty to look at but a pain in the butt to shovel out of. This winter just doesn’t want to quit \u2026<\/p>\n

Got out to the beach and could see the sand\u2026<\/strong><\/h6>\n

21 February 2026:<\/strong> It’s finally beginning to melt enough to see the earth again in spots. The beach was still mostly covered in snow, but there were patches of sand poking out and it was possible to at least get a short outdoor walk in \u2026<\/p>\n

14 February 2026:<\/strong> This winter has been brutal. The last snow is just not melting. Days in a row of sub-freezing weather and harsh winds makes getting outside an undertaking. I pushed myself to get out a little bit today to do some photos down by the beach. I thought maybe it would have melted enough to go for a walk, but there was so much ice everywhere it was really unsafe. Made a few photos of the surreal scene, where the Nissequogue tidal basin looked like the arctic sea full of ice floes \u2026<\/p>\n

4 February 2026:<\/strong> Two months from today we arrive in China to start the Sichuan Basin to Tibetan Plateau Expedition, and it’s hard to believe it’s finally getting closer. Though two months is both short and long, I can start the “countdown” to departure. Set up a new moleskin journal specifically for the trip, and am busy working on planning in the background\u2026<\/p>\n

\nUSnomads.org is very proud to be presenting the fifth edition of the Nomad Rally<\/a> in 2026. This is a unique kind of rally experience — a ten week event that participants can do from anywhere within the continental U.S.A. Competitors design their own routes as part of the rally, then drive it in a points-based online competition that includes optional activity tasks, quests and weekly challenges. The 2026 rally will run from 8 June – 17 August and is open to any driver within the United States who has an off-road capable vehicle — stock or modified. Registration for 2026 is currently open.
