28 January 2026:<\/strong> Got the route for the Sichuan Basin to Tibetan Plateau mapped out on paper topo maps today. It was a bit of a project even getting it mapped out digitally because I didn’t have GPS coordinates for everything, some were only place names, but with the problems of transliteration and different names for the same places, it was more complicated than usual. Still I now can see clearly where we are heading and get a good sense of the terrain\u2026<\/p>\n

19 January 2026:<\/strong> Drove out to the east end to look for snowy owls again, but did not see any. Then on my way back home, by Lake Ronkonkoma, I spotted a Bald Eagle and stopped to make some photos, and then a second Bald Eagle joined the first one up in the bare branches of the tallest tree. I hung out observing and photographing for a while before they flew away\u2026<\/p>\n

18 January 2026:<\/strong> Snow on the ground but getting out a bit anyway because it’s the weekend. Headed up to the Nissequoge Tidal Basin for a bit, but it was really very cold\u2026<\/p>\n

\nUSnomads.org is very proud to be presenting the fifth edition of the Nomad Rally<\/a> in 2026. This is a unique kind of rally experience — a ten week event that participants can do from anywhere within the continental U.S.A. Competitors design their own routes as part of the rally, then drive it in a points-based online competition that includes optional activity tasks, quests and weekly challenges. The 2026 rally will run from 8 June – 17 August and is open to any driver within the United States who has an off-road capable vehicle — stock or modified. Registration for 2026 is currently open.
