The re-enactment centered on the first days of the Allied invasion of Normandy, and gave the opportunity to get vehicles from the museum&#8217;s collection out into the field in a demonstration of a concerted tank battle, supported by infantry all as part of a mechanized infantry unit of the 2nd Armor Division. Great detail was paid to authenticity and getting history &#8220;right&#8221; in the telling of the story, and it was a great way to revisit the specifics of what the troops faced on a micro level. It was strange to be seeing the city like a tourist after being away for so long. And while so much has changes, so much remains familiar, and I realized I hadn&#8217;t forgotten my way. The Beaver Moon is the traditional name for the full moon in November, supposedly named because it&#8217;s when beavers are busiest building dams and stocking food for winter, and also when beaver traps were set for their valuable pelts during the North American fur trade. This is a unique kind of rally experience &#8212; a ten week event that participants can do from anywhere within the continental U.S.A. Competitors design their own routes as part of the rally, then drive it in a points-based online competition that includes optional activity tasks, quests and weekly challenges. The 2026 rally will run from 8 June &#8211; 17 August and is open to any driver within the United States who has an off-road capable vehicle &#8212; stock or modified.
